The Giambelli Award for Excellence recognizes high school students who earn a 5 on the AP Italian exam and who commit to enrolling in an Italian language course in their freshman year of college in the United States. To be eligible, you must:
- Be an ILF Student Member. Not a member? Join here: Student Registration Form
- Have a teacher of Italian who is an ILF Teacher Member. They may join here if they are not a member already: Teacher Registration Form
- Have given the College Board permission to share your AP exam score
- Have received a 5 on the AP Italian exam
- Provide proof of registration in Italian language course(s) in your freshman year of college in the United States.

The Italian Language Foundation is pleased to announce the winners of the ILF College Fellowship and Enrico Fermi College Fellowship!
Based on their outstanding academic achievements, passion for the Italian language and culture, and commitment to community service, 7 college students received a Fellowship.
This Fellowship will encourage awardees to continue their study of Italian, and to apply their knowledge in their professional experiences.
ILF College Fellowship is awarded to students enrolled in college Italian language classes, together with other academic courses. Fellowship is $1,000, renewable for up to 3 years.

The ILF’s Enrico Fermi College Fellowship is awarded to students enrolled in college Italian language classes in addition to science and/or math classes, including pre-med, scientific research, etc. Fellowship is $1,000 per semester, renewable for up to 3 years.

ILF College Fellowship: Student required to be enrolled in a college Italian language class, together with other academic courses. A minor or major concentration in Italian is not required. Fellowship is $1,000, renewable for up to 3 years.
Fred Kuwornu – ILF College Fellowship: Student required to be of African-American heritage and enrolled in a college Italian language class, together with other academic courses. A minor or major concentration in Italian is not required. Fellowship is $1,000, renewable for up to 3 years.
Enrico Fermi – ILF College Fellowship: Student required to be enrolled in a college Italian language class and also in science and/or math classes, including pre-med, scientific research, etc. Fellowship is $1,000 per semester, renewable for up to 3 years.
Fellowship Eligibility
- Open to matriculated college level students at the freshman, sophomore, and junior levels.
- Both student and student’s teacher of Italian must be ILF Members. A letter of recommendation from the student’s college professor of Italian is requested.
- Preference will be given to students who have enrolled in the AP Italian course in high school, and have taken the AP Italian exam.
- Student must submit a blog describing their experience studying Italian, traveling to Italy, visiting Italian art exhibits, concerts, restaurants, specialty markets, etc.
- Student must volunteer as a tutor or in other service group in high school or college. A letter of recommendation from the leader of that volunteer organization is required.
WHAT IS THE C2E PROGRAM?
Commitment to Excellence (C2E) Program is geared to 11th & 12th grade high school and college level students of Italian with a goal to help them become global career and workforce ready through Mentorship, Leadership and Internship exposure.
C2E Program Components
One-to-One Mentorship
Students are matched to a Mentor to support them with resume writing, college applications and to have someone to help them navigate their educational goals.
ILF Student Fellowships
In 2023, the ILF announced its Student Fellowships for eligible 12th graders and college students enrolled in Italian language classes. The ILF Fellowship can be applied toward the continued study of the Italian language in an approved college program in the United States. The Fellowship is $1,000 per semester, renewable up to 3-years.
Leadership Development
For 2023, ILF is sponsoring for high school level students a virtual leadership conference from July 31 - August 4, 2023. Contact the ILF if you are interested in Leadership Development
Summer Internships
Select prepared students are chosen for Summer Internships with ILF's Corporate Internship Partners, U.S based Italian companies to gain workforce skills and enhance their Italian language skills.
